KPop Demon Hunters [en.wikipedia.org] is a pretty good movie and I happily recommend it! The story is not very novel, but the execution (animation, music, dialogues) elevates it and reminds me a lot of #Nimona.

Not a big fan of Netflix as a company, but happy that they are a good home for animation (Nimona, Star Trek Prodigy...) since Disney is repeatedly dropping the ball.

I knew absolutely nothing going in. I saw a clip on TikTok where #Nimona first meets Ballister, and she had a very funny "Bugs Bunny" vibe. That was enough to sell me on it.

So imagine my shock finding it's set in a "cyberpunk Camelot" of sorts.

And I had no idea about the shape-shifting element.

Interestingly the setting doesn't seem to add much to the story that couldn't have been done in a more traditional era. But it IS a refreshing and welcome twist.

The cast is quite good; Chloë Grace Moretz, especially, sells the chaos-maker-masking-deep-pain of it all.

The climax of the film really hit me hard, seeing this poor aching creature resorting to something I wouldn't have expected to see in an animated feature.

Excellent film, filled with a lot of heart.

My only real beef is the last couple seconds of the film. I'd have had much more respect if they'd left things on the note that it did. Much like Speilberg's "A.I.", it goes on a beat too long, unable to commit to a meaningful, melancholy ending. (Which is what dinged it a star, for me.)

Real good stuff, otherwise!

Wow, 'cyberpunk Camelot' is not how I expected #Nimona to open. I really don't know a lot about this film.

It's a complete coincidence that my shapeshifting animation is pink. Pink is just my favourite colour. My choosing it actually predates #Nimona (well, the film, not the graphic novel).

By the way, if you haven't seen /Nimona/ yet, you should. :3

Sight of Your Soul [monstercatmedia.bandcamp.com] feels very very Nimona. Like, i can almost /see/ the AMV.

(It's also rock rather than one of the flavours of the usual electronic, which fits)

#TheBoyAndTheHeron has won for Best Animated Feature at the #Oscars.

Not a big surprise. Given the punk rock #Nimona, the sketchbook #Spiderverse, and the tempered Heron, the academy would go with the "classier" #film. However, all three would have deserved it.
