@io obviously this is fake, but now I'm actually curious if Windows still has code for installing with multiple usb drives
@soulfirethewolf @io split WIM support is still present as of VB_RELEASE (and most certainly GE_RELEASE) AFAIK, done it myself to get Win10 v21H1 deployed onto some x86-based HP slate tablet from like 2014
@soulfirethewolf @io just confirmed, Windows image-based servicing still includes SWM support
technically speaking, it might be possible to produce a valid Windows 11 image split across some few thousand 2.88 MB floppy disks (despite being incredibly inconvenient)
so, assuming that I have Win11 v24H2 Enterprise LTSC here (ISO filename 26100.1.240331-1435.ge_release_CLIENT_ENTERPRISES_OEM_x64FRE_en-us.iso
):
the compressed install.wim
image weighs at:
divide 3,617.01 MB by 2.88 MB, and someone would need at least a whopping 1,256 2.88 MB-dense floppy disks in order to install Windows 11 Enterprise LTSC 2024.
