so, i was browsing https://isp.netscape.com/ at 3am like a normal girl in her early 20's does, when i noticed something weird... what the fuck is this "download browser" thing? it downloads a file called "AOL_Netscape.exe", what the fuck is that

@mjdxp I'm running and installing this on my main personal computer :emma4head::fluffytail:

@mjdxp oh my god it's chrome

@mjdxp it didn't install anything funny (at least in the UK, maybe it does PUP stuff in other countries). it's just a rebadged chrome made by some "Security" company registered in the UK that's been around since 2007.

that begs the question of who the fuck this is for

@ipg i looked at the URL the download link pointed to and saw it pointed to sentrybay, from their website it looks like it's just a standard DaaS provider though, idk if they made this or AOL is puppeting the ghost of netscape for grandma who doesn't like change or something?

@mjdxp i wonder if this is just an obligation of theirs to keep the Netscape Browser name/trademark "in use" or because they included it as a feature in ISP plans they sold so have to keep Something available

@mjdxp these sentrybay guys have *other* AOL-licensed browsers, including "DataMask by AOL" (found by replacing "netscape" in the dl link with "aol"), but that one refuses to install

@ipg looks like it's working for me, looks almost identical to the netscape one

@mjdxp yeah i got there too, i get error 500 during install though

@ipg i got this internal server error. i'm guessing they just don't host the files for this anymore

@mjdxp @ipg yeah that would be a 500 but hex for some reason
