I haven't heard of anyone hating on Mint more any other mainstream "too easy" version that isn't Arch.
Does anybody still brag about using Gentoo?

@10volt @boxy i know it makes some odd default package decisions, for example it’s to my knowledge the primary distro using pulseaudio and not pipewire

@10volt @boxy i definitely feel like it's completely overrated

and also has a knack for nuking itself out of existence because it's 2023 and apt still hasn't figured out that if something removes a package while installing one, there's something terribly wrong going on

especially if that package is the entirety of xorg

@10volt@wetdry.world @boxy@wetdry.world There is. I remember one Linux Youtuber, Matt of The Linux Cast, stating how he felt that it was overrated.

Personally, I feel that beginners shouldn't only be recommend Windows-style Linux distros. Numerous people have went along fine with Ubuntu, which has GNOME as its interface, as their first distro. GNOME (or at least customized versions of it) are easy enough to learn that I feel that it's not one of the main hurdles when switching to Linux.
