programmers went from "i saved 2 bytes today" to "yeah we will use 9.4 terabytes of ram for hello world using our meta-meta-metaframeworks"

@starfrost Meanwhile demoscene: Here's a really beautiful 3D animation, it fits in a 4KB program.

@lanodan @starfrost and I spend the entire weekend shaving it down to 3.90KB!

Edit: building a sentence is hard yo

@starfrost @chjara I posit that it's okay to use more... if your program doesn't misbehave when paging (and swapping) and doesn't become basically unusable.

Most software developed along the lines of modern dogma fails that test anyway.

@starfrost kaze emanuar considers it an achievement when he can save milliseconds of computing time so efficiency isn’t completely dead

i’m not being completely serious, as you pointed out a holy few programmers still exist who value efficiency, those being mostly demoscene creators and people who actually care about their nintendo switch games/ports

@shroomie well aware! i just hate web developers.

@starfrost so do i (except for the ones that hate javascript, they seem generally cool)

@shroomie tbh raw js is fine just dont use the frameworks
