Wait wtf NOVA is upsream on Linux 6.15 already??? Cool!!
Ray Tracing and DLSS on NOVA/NVK when
@luana Uh... Hopefully one day! There's a lot of code to write yet before we get to that point, though.
@luana No, it isn't. Maybe some Rust abstractions landed (I'm not sure about that) but Nova isn't even written yet, much less upstream.
@gfxstrand Uhhhhh is this fake news? They mentioned nova here: https://www.zdnet.com/article/the-linux-6-15-kernel-arrives-and-its-big-a-victory-for-rust-fans/
@luana Not really fake but definitely overblown.
That's just the Nova core. All it's really able to do is load the firmware. There's no display support or any way to submit render or compute work to the GPU yet. It's a very important first piece but it's just the first piece.
@gfxstrand ohhhhhh I see
@luana Honestly, the fact that Rust driver code is finally starting to land upstream is nothing short of a minor miracle so we should celebrate it.
It's just maybe not the game changer for users that the journalist thinks it is.
