you know maybe the reason feels off nowadays is because they don't kickstart innovations anymore (with the exception of M1), they just hop on the current hype train (I'm literally only thinking about the vision pro saying this)

@soop oh never came across this, gonna give it a watch

@driftini if you want to be dismissive you can say they've always been chasing trends (mp3 players, cell phones, and now vr headsets). I think apple's speciality has been taking emergent technologies and fully fleshing out the user experience, or including certain companents before they became standardized for modern computers (wi-fi cards and SSDs for example).

@ds except with the vision pro they hardly know what they're doing
sure you got cool gimmicks like the face passthrough but it seems universally agreed upon that the alternatives are better, for the price alone at the very least
it's not like they're making VR more accessible either with the ridiculous price tag

@driftini oh yeah the vision pro is dumb af (I've never been a vr person though tbh so I don't have a horse in this race either way) but I was essentially tryna say that I think the notion of apple being "innovative" is mostly marketing, if anything most of their innovation is them paying companies exclusive rights for their technology (trackpads from synaptic as a random example).
