Alexios holds a special place in my heart. I've been written him for years, in various different RP stories, TTRPG stuff, and in this book series I'm currently working on. I genuinely couldn't love him more. Dante is a very close second. Tall, dark, and handsome (with a side of angst), and he's a doctor to boot. What's not to love? They're both softies on the inside, but scary, broody, and formidable on the outside. It's such a delicious combination. They really are so different, though. That's the only similarity. Zumbador<p>Had another attempt at writing in a coffee shop (the Hang Ten at Muizenberg) but this time not so successful as workmen were angle grinding just outside the door which defeated even my noise-cancelling headphones. </p><p>This is a great coffee shop, if a bit expensive. It's a combination coffee shop and surf school, it's got a shelf of second hand books for sale, as well as board games you can play. Good music too. If there isn’t water, that’s a much bigger problem.</p><p>I consume a wide variety of teas, but not the same one more than once per day.</p><p>In short, tea is a welcome addition to my day, every day, but not critical to my creativity. Kevin Klehr 🏳️🌈<p>I've been working on my first self published novel as part of a book series penned by ten different authors.</p><p>I usually work on my books, on and off, over several years. But this project has a tight deadline. So, very quickly, I changed aspects of one character as she was originally coming across too bitter. I switched to multi-person first person POV (from 3rd person limited) when about two-thirds was written (I didn't feel the connection between character and reader was strong enough). And I've already done about five edits on this thing.</p><p>Yesterday I completed edit number six, doing my usual thing of changing the font (this time to one no one would print a book in), and both deleted and added text. I know this story so well, I also caught some behavioural differences in a couple of the characters. They're now fixed.</p><p>I'm reading the last two chapters this morning (the ones that have seen the least edits) before I send this off to my designated beta readers.</p><p>My obsession with this has kicked it into shape sooner than I imagined. There are a couple of last minute characters who need further development in my next (and final) rewrites before it's off to the editor.</p><p>So, just as Halloween approaches, watch out for this year's instalment of the Haunted Hearts Series of MM Horror/Romance novels. The covers have all been done and they look fab.</p><p>BTW, the image in this graphic is not the cover. Richard<p>I don't understand anything about the poem I wrote this morning. It is completely streaming consciousness. I never write those type of poems for a reason. Murdoc Addams 🧛🏻:ri: 🇨🇦<p>Introduction Appendix 3: This project will be a bit less socially minded, more just creative, and hopefully even a little lucrative, but I'm not holding my breath. </p><p>That's right, I'm writing a novel. I know that novelists are a dime a dozen, but I actually really enjoy writing, think that I'm fairly decent at it, and certainly have no shortage of ideas. There will be sequels, many of them (and prequels, and side stories...).</p><p>So what's it about? It's science fiction, because that's what I know and like best. The basic idea is the well-known "lost in space" idea, but I'm hoping that the unique setting, characters, and story are able to carry it. It takes place in an alternate history where the United States, Canada, and Mexico joined together to form a Technate, a country that employs Technocracy (see my Intro Appendix 1), not long after World War 2. Technological progress happens much faster until the start of the novel, where we find our crew of four performing a test flight of a prototype fusion rocket engine. Naturally, something goes horribly wrong and... science fiction weirdness ensues as the crew has to try and find their way back to Earth while navigating several strange (and often hostile) alien civilizations. </p><p>The background and setting are fairly detailed, enough that I already have ideas for prequels and side stories in addition to the main series. "Epic" world building appears to be my jam.
