Since a lot of you voted yes or maybe in participating in a fediverse tournament, I've decided to give hosting a tournament a go.

Mark October 14th at 6pm UTC on your calendars, for the Splatoon 3 Fediverse Championships!

Anyone can participate in this tournament, as long as you have an account on a social media website that supports the ActivityPub protocol (Lemmy and Kbin excluded, I'd recommend joining a Mastodon server, like here at wetdry.world if you only have a Lemmy or Kbin ActivityPub account).

You'll need to assemble a team of 4 players. I'm not setting up any Discord server for this, but I'd highly recommend scrolling through the replies on this post or making a reply with contact information and your splashtag.

Edit: I believe @Butterfree made a Discord server that people can join at discord.gg/BjeGAfcG

For full details and rules, please visit the tournament page [lethallava.land].

Teams must be registered by 09/10/23, if you want to pull out of the tournament please let me know before 10/10/23.

If there's a Splatfest, Big Run or Grizzco Random Weapons Rotation, the tournament will be rescheduled.

No prizes will be given out during this event.

Would you consider having at least best-of-3 sets, and also possibly a double-elimination format for the tournament? As it stands, a single-elim one-game tourney means that half of the players that make time for the event will play probably not more than 5 minutes of gameplay.

I agree with this, Single-match sets would be way too short to play, one match could last anywhere between 45 or so seconds and 5+ minutes.
Meaning that most teams could have a really short run in the tourney.
Also, a single-elim format might be way too punishing for teams considering how much variance in skill levels we could have here

@AbsentAria @one_suit_samus @splatoon@lemmy.world I'll make a change to best-of-3 now, thank you for the feedback

@splatoon@wetdry.world @AbsentAria@neovibe.app @one_suit_samus@retro.pizza @splatoon@lemmy.world [lemmy.world] by the way, I was a bit confused about double elimination, so I didn't add that to the changes I've made

I'm not entirely sure how double elimination works in the bracket system that we will be hopefully using since obviously a team gets eliminated if they lose the best of 3 lol

@experiencer @splatoon @one_suit_samus The traditional bracket systems should work with double-elim formats. It just means we have a losers bracket as well so it takes two losses to be knocked out the tourney and if you lose once you still have a chance at winning.

@AbsentAria@neovibe.app @splatoon@wetdry.world @one_suit_samus@retro.pizza ah I see

I'm not ruling out having a losers bracket when it happens, but it's not in my plans right now if that's alright

Thank you both for all the help and support, I'm super new to this stuff
