k i installed tailscale on my router and got my #proxmox and containers all up again, and the secondary router set up in AP mode.

i have:
freshrss (which i love), searxng, and grocy and wger (both which i have yet to play with)

WHAT ELSE? i feel unstoppable (as long as there’s a proxmox ve lxc helper script, because i’m still learning) #selfhosting #selfhosted

This is your casual reminder to #selfhost :flan_hacker: At least that what you are comfortable with :flan_guns:

#selfhosting is about being independent. About owning your data. About reclaiming the 'net and decentralizing it. It is about taking control. Being able to do things the way you see fit. And it is about breaking free from subscriptions and from big tech which is #enshittifying like there is no tomorrow.

Go #selfhosted the way you see fit. In small steps, one platform at a time - or with a head first dive if you are feeling adventurous. Share your experiences, write a blog about it, create a video or post about it on the Fediverse.

It most definitely is not too late to revolt. To give big tech the middle finger. Firmly stand your ground. Be a rebel. :flan_molotov:

Is it just me or are SSDs really expensive nowadays?

Looking to purchase 1-2 new 2.5" SSDs to expand the Fediverse.Games storage pool, and where it was previously $300-$350 (AUD) for a decent quality SSD, its now closer to at least $400.

Parallel to that, any tips for picking up decent (non-QLC, ideally including DRAM) 2.5" SSDs for a decent price?

Prefer 4TB models, but would do 1.92 or 2TB in need.

I'm in Australia but happy to buy genuine models from overseas. Also happy to purchase used as long as there's a decent amount of life left in them.

Also taking hardware donations (I ain't too proud to beg 🤣)

Please boost widely, and if there's any useful hashtags for this post please let me know.

It’s not a proper rack or anything special, but it’s a start! 🤩

Top Shelf

  • Orbi RBR10 Mesh Router
  • 8 port Netgear unmanaged switch
  • SmartThings Hub
  • Philips Hue Bridge (Hub)

Bottom Shelf

  • Terramaster F4-424 Pro NAS server with 4 x 4TB Seagate Ironwolf HDDs.

Behind the Shelving Unit

  • Semi-tidy cabling. It’ll do. 😅

Ooof. Okay with that debacle out of the way, calamity.world is now running Mastodon 4.4.1!

I also upgraded Postgres to v17, Redis to v7, and ElasticSearch to v8 while I was at it.

Of course I messed up the process at every opportunity... I borked the migrate process by killing a task prematurely, hamstrung completion by running a full ElasticSearch reindex, got sidetracked and wrote some shell scripts, killed and restarted the wrong things...

But we got there.

Has anyone had problems with running mastodon on FreeBSD in the past, especially with updating it?
Whenever I try to run “RAILS_ENV=production bundle exec rails assets:precompile” there is a node process at about 400% indefinitely. Does anyone know a solution to that?
To install it I followed @stefano's guide (it-notes.dragas.net/2022/11/23)
