@sunguramy@flipping.rocksI now understand why I have struggled so much with any ap that uses Open Street Map. I just tried yet another ap, that makes it very easy to submit additions. So I tried to!
And....OSM literally *does not have categories* for the places I frequent, which is why I can never fuckin' find them on the damn aps. Know how frustrating it is to have to manually input every place you frequent? And know when you travel, you won't be able to find something?
Try searching "Cider Mill". Get absolutely fuck all except some street suggestions.
Try searching "Dog Training" and get sent to random countries that have enough letters matching for some street name somewhere.
Try looking up "Indian Food" and it recommends "Sunny Food Convince Store" and "Circle K" (a *gas station*) as the top two picks, despite knowing where three locations are within the map zoom I have set.
I know it's data as contributed, but talk about serious holes, because *if the category does not exist, then the location can't be added.*
People won't move off Google Maps or such, until there are actual working options that return actual locations that are being looked for, just sayin'.
(Not to mention many don't work right in CarPlay, and I have yet to find *any* with #accessibility - specifically, unique vibration alerts for different turns and maneuvers)

#Google (#Alphabet) is reinstating the worst of #YouTube creators who were "permanently" banned for COVID-19 and election integrity misinformation. Alphabet is now saying "Biden made them do the bans."
Clearly, billionaire CEO Sundar -- who we've seen palling around with Trump of course -- has gone full MAGA. Google is purposely conflating -- that is, purposely confusing -- necessary moderation to protect people and elections from masses of misinformation designed to mislead them, often in devastating ways -- from censorship created to suppress specific valid points of view.
There is an enormous difference -- Sundar and his Alphabet minions know this full well. They also know that their Gemini AI is a source of often dangerous misinformation on a planetary scale, and it's likely this has also entered into their recently (in a letter to Congress) announced changes.
Given Google's enthusiastic embrace of MAGA, I do not consider my past statements applauding the security and privacy of user information at Google to be reliable guidance moving forward from now. I have no confidence that Sundar would not quickly (or ultimately) agree to virtually any demands made by the Trump administration, however invasive or illegal they might actually be.
I do not have specific recommendations for alternatives to Google or their services, so please don't ask me for them! But I do recommend keeping the obvious shift in Google's behavior in mind, and you would be wise to assume that they are fully and completely in bed with fascist Trump in many ways -- or soon will be -- absent clear and convincing evidence to the contrary.
If Google/Alphabet wishes to discuss any of this with me and point out any errors in my analysis, they know my email address.

Our NRIC needs #NFC/#Apple Wallet support lol - no matter how easy it might be to insert your NRIC into the existing terminal at the gas pump (which I do appreciate if that's the case), no way in hell I'd go back to using physical cards (esp for something that'd be on the regular). As far as fueling up goes, switching from using Apple Pay/#Google Pay at the gas pump to paying off of a mobile app right from your car would prolly be your best bet (to eliminate the need for your physical NRIC).

Congratulations to the people of #Indianapolis who tonight successfully defeated an attempt by #Google to build yet another #AI #dataCenter, and which would have destroyed tons of family farmland along with the local environment. An excellent example of what can happen when political "opponents" set aside the distractions and focus on the *real* threats to their well-being.
For some reason #Google has begun to mark the http:// URL of some pages on the Principia website as the canonical URL, causing the https:// to get deindexed and disappear from Google search results.
The number of affected pages is slowly going back down again, but one would think that their algorithm would, if both exist and is accessible, boost the HTTPS version's canonical likelihood by +infinity or something. Apparently not.
