We have another company joining the Works With Home Assistant program - Eve! 🥳

Eve is at the forefront of the Matter standard and focus on local control & privacy in the home. Check out the blog 👇🏼 for what devices were certified - including some firsts for the program. 👏🏻

Этим постом объявляю начало треда по экспериментам с локальным голосовым помощником на базе Home Assistant.

На картинке - Home Assistant Voice Preview [www.home-assistant.io].

WLED konfiguriert. Nun nur noch #Homeassistant mit Schalter verheiraten (#Zigbee).

@carnage4life My central heating is controlled by a local-only temperature sensor, a local-only smart relay, some local-only TRVs, and #HomeAssistant . I don't *think* anyone can shut it down.

BTW the decades old electromechanical thermostat that this gear bypasses is still made.

One of the really great things about HomeKit, from Apple, is that it is a commercially supported way to do local control of devices across your LAN. I have devices that are commercial (VELUX skylight open/close device). I join it to my network, activate HomeKit on it, activate HomeKit on my HomeAssistant system, and now the #HomeAssistant can control it. No internet nor Apple devices, nor Apple services are required.

I proved this point last labor day by putting a shovel through the fiber optic that runs to my house. 😬 I could still control my devices, even without internet!

They can’t take that away from me. (Have to make sure things don’t automatically update their firmware, or else they CAN take that away from me)

I bought a new smart thermostat I need to install (soon). It's a Venstar T7900. Never heard of it before? I hadn't either.

I previously had an Ecobee in my prior house, and I loved it, but I didn't love the dependency on the cloud.

(This device does have cloud support, but it's not required and local control is supported -- so they say.)

Today, it was confirmed that my zealousness for local control is warranted.

Guess it's time for a new #introduction, post instance move.

Hi! I'm Crabbypup, or just 'crabby', though only in name most days.

I'm a Linux flavored computer toucher from Kitchener-Waterloo.

I tend to share stuff about the region, Open source software in general and #linux in specific.

I like to tinker in my #homelab, where I run #proxmox, #ceph, and a bunch of other #selfhosted services including #homeassistant.

I'm a rather inconsistent poster, but I'm glad to be here.

I've created two projects related to #Remeha boilers/heatpumps:

An #ESPhome component that allows you to read data off the CAN bus from modern Remeha boilers (and possibly from related brands, like #Baxi and De #Dietrich): github.com/robertklep/esphome-

And a #Python script/lib to parse the aforementioned CAN data: github.com/robertklep/remeha-c

The goal is to eventually create an ESPhome component that allows you to read and control your Remeha boiler fully locally.

I still find things I can add to my #HomeAssistant dashboard, like a conditional widget showing that status of the Dishwasher and its remaining time through the ThinQ integration.

Evolution of Home Assistant:
- Runs on Raspberry Pi, controls a single WiFi light switch
- Controls a dozen switches and plugs
- Automations using Phone locations and time of day
- AddOns! Mosquitto, AdGuard Home and MotionEye/Frigate get installed
- Migrates to beefier server
- Voice and Whisper addons get installed
- Zigbee takes over for switches and plugs

- What's next?
