Hey, it just occurred to me that I could #AskFedi about a thing.
For the past few years, my siblings, siblings-in-law, and I have gone on an annual holiday together (Air B&B style) in various places around Aus. The first year we went to Bendigo. Last year we went to Cairns.

So... this year we are contemplating going to either Victor Harbour (Adelaide) or Perth. Early November.

So! Please tell me pros and cons of both places, sights to see, things to avoid, from y'all who live there or have been there and thus would know.

Our interests:
1. Arts & Crafts (Art galleries, museums, markets, craft supplies such as YARN)
2. Nature walks, especially the photogenic ones.
3. Beaches/swimming.
4. Wine and yummy food.

I need “something” inside my mothers house, actively/periodically checking the nearby devices and report them to the Google Find Network.

Currently latest report is often hours old and often sent by devices in the neighbourhood.

I’m thinking about:
- Obsolete android always-on-phone
- Raspberry pi with a bluetooth module

I could use some tips on how to achieve this with the little free time I have..

I've got a nerd #AskFedi question, expectations are high since we are on the Fediverse 😘

Situation: I’ve tagged mothers keys with bluetooth trackers. I hate this stuff, but she’s suffering from dementia and I also need some sleep. I'm using android trackers, e.g. the Google Find Hub. I hate this too.

Question: How can I improve the bloody “home tracking abilities” of these #%#@! trackers on Google Find network?

My mom gave me an interesting thought experiment yesterday during our regular call. She was planning on moving to Cheyenne, Wyoming, where my sister lives, if my dad passes on before her.

Well, she asked about buying a townhouse with me instead. I pushed back that the politics in Wyoming are way too conservative for my comfort zone. So she countered with moving to Greeley, Colorado, where I live in northern Colorado.

This led to a whole day of introspection, talking with my sister on her feelings on this (surprise, she’s supportive!), and talking with my apartment property manager about the logistics. *That* led to me suggesting she move to my complex and we get a larger unit.

We could be good for each other, if boundaries are respected.

Anyone do something similar that could offer insights or considerations?

The lists -feature* seems totally unusable, since the content people toot stays on the list for a couple of hours and then totally disappears.

Am I doing something wrong? Is anyone else experiencing this?

Should I just stop using lists and have everything in my home timeline. This makes it pretty messy. I really liked using lists.

#Mac nerds: When you have an Open dialog visible, you can normally drag a file from the Finder *onto* the Open dialog (in another app) and the dialog should "navigate" to where that file lives and select it.

You knew that, because you’re a #pro! 🤓

In some apps, though, that same maneuver results in Finder actually *moving* the file to whatever directory is shown in the Open dialog — not “navigating" the dialog *to* the file and selecting it.

What gives??? This drives me crazy. How can I make the behavior consistent across all apps?

(And yes I web-searched first, and this was the only other person I could find on the Internet with this same concern: reddit.com/r/MacOS/comments/18 )

Just spent a few minutes looking for #sewing fabric on Amazon. What a mess. I almost never use Amazon anymore and their search/customization is absolutely useless for something like this. I've tried moodfabrics and fabricdepot sites but I can't find what I'm looking for (polyester, non-spandex, lightweight durable outdoor pants material). Any suggestions? #AskFedi

Hit the account size limit on pixelfed.social and with Fedicon on, I doubt @dansup has the bandwidth for admin messages. On me for uploading close to max image sizes.

I have some experience with self-hosting and using podman (in place of docker) and have lots of storage space and compute locally

I'm reading the install docs but the docker side of them seems very much a work in progress.

Anyone have any experience they would share? Any gotchas?
