The president on Tuesday called the Amazon founder to voice his displeasure with a report that his company was going to start showing how tariffs increased the prices of certain products. But the phone call, according to Donald Trump, spurred Bezos and Amazon to ditch that plan altogether. Afterwards, on Tuesday afternoon, the president had nothing but nice things to say about Bezos while speaking to reporters.

“Jeff Bezos was very nice, he was terrific,” the president said. “He solved the problem very quickly, and he did the right thing. He’s a good guy.”

Amazon planned to display the original retail price of its goods alongside the 'price including tariffs'. So the price tag of an item imported from China would read:

$100 -- incl tariffs $245

The White House was livid and called this "a hostile and political act by Amazon."

Naturally, the spine-free Bezos backed down on command. We can't be reminding US consumers that *they're* the ones paying Trump's tariffs.

Later in the morning, the retail giant claimed that was not the plan at all.

"The team that runs our ultra low cost Amazon Haul store considered the idea of listing import charges on certain products," #Amazon spox Tim Doyle said in a statement. "This was never approved & is not going to happen."
