My Wii Pointer cursor set is finally finished. It replaces all the default windows mouse cursors with nice and crisp renders of the Wii Pointer hand, and I've thrown in some extra icons too so every cursor type is updated!! (despite some cursors barely ever being used by Windows)

I'm also releasing the vector image files that I've made during the creation of this cursor, as I know a few people wanted high quality versions of the Wii Pointer hand ^^ :hd_dvd_spin:

Downloads and a bit of a longer writeup here:
primmr.dev/projects/wii-pointe

And now *hopefully* on Linux too!! ^^

Now properly on Linux + there's now MDPI scaled icons that hopefully look better on lower DPI screens

And a huge thank you to @Eramdam@octodon.social who very kindly ported all the cursors to work with MacOS - the trilogy is now complete!!

@Rairii fantastic!! do let me know if there are any issues

@primm Gonna pop these on tomorrow~

@primm
didnt know i deeply needed that until now

@primm These are awesome! I need to figure out how to put these in KDE Plasma. Does anyone know if there's a manual cursor editor in it like what Windows has?

@primm wait you can just copy it to /usr/share/icons/ & select it in system settings.

@jackemled@furry.engineer @primm@wetdry.world no you just put it in the cursors folder like normal, you don't have to individually set all cursors like in windows

@tauon @primm I had figured it out, but it displays different sizes when the cursor is over different windows so I can't really use it normally.

@primm these are adorable!!! would it be possible to render out a 1x scale version?

windows 10 at 100% scaling in screenshot, they sadly get a bit mangled :<

@dogo It would definitely be possible, I just unfortunately might not have the time

@dogo although given I have to make a scaled down version for linux anyway, I'll see what I can do

@primm not a worry if you can't! I understand it's extra work

@dogo Hai, I've now added a scaled down set for MDPI screens (its included in the main download)

@primm heck yeah Wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii

@primm@wetdry.world will definitely try them out at some point.. right now my cursor is set to a utsuho reiuji themed one

@rustMotherboard oooh nice, and thank you!!

@primm wish there was a version for us regular DPI plebs, they look neat but all jagged :sad_dog: good job regardless, hope nintendo lawyers won't mind :blobcatgiggle:

@brawaru aaah so sorry! I first intended for it to be at a much higher resolution, but had to scale it back because of the bad interpolation on even high dpi screens, but sadly I don't have a regular dpi screen to test it on anymore

@primm@wetdry.world is there any way to install these on KDE?

@primm@wetdry.world nvm there's someone else who did this for KDE

@primm you dont understand how much i need these on linux

@stella@tech.lgbt @primm@wetdry.world well it is open source: use the files and make your own if you have the time. I might do just that

@Mair @primm would be cool if you did because then i dont have to but if you dont then i guess i will

@stella @primm @Mair With the original, most of the cursors work, except ironically the hand cursor. But with this one, none of them work. And the title is wrong.

@Mair
All the links are already in this thread?

@halotroop2288@meow.social I don't see them, sorry, could you send it too me again?

@Mair @stella @primm this doesn't work on plasma 6 (at least for me)

it just displays my old cursors

@Mair @stella @primm @millions It also works for me on Wayland. It should work with X11 too following this guide [develop.kde.org], which is supposed to work for both & worked for me.

I ended up only having to copy Wii-Pointer to /usr/share/icons after extracting it.
sudo cp -r $HOME/Downloads/Wii-Pointer /usr/share/icons/Wii-Pointer

@jackemled @Mair @stella @primm i found the linux version and installed it but is there a way to change the cursor's size? it's massive on kde

@millions @Mair @stella @primm It changes size depending on what program window is on top of😭
To make different sizes you'll have to take the .svg files & generate the different sizes from scratch. I posted a link to a guide somewhere in these comments.

@jackemled @Mair @millions @stella and the linux ones are already quite scaled down from their windows counterparts, which took ages to do just the one batch

if you have the time, you could scale down the icons further yourself, but at that point you'd have such a low resolution that it may really not look decent. Its a shame that linuxes don't seem to have a functional mouse pointer dpi setting

@primm @jackemled @Mair @millions @stella oh this explains why the cursor keeps changing size between xwayland and wayland windows :sob:

@SMNFXCN linux is an interesting beast

@millions@labyrinth.zone @stella@tech.lgbt @primm@wetdry.world also try installing the file manually and in the KDE discover store

@luana
I've done a speedy port to Linux and it works on my machine, so hopefully it'll work for you ^^

@stella i trieddd but theres so little documentation

@stella if I can do it in an evening I'll try again to add Linux varieties, but I've already spent almost more time than I can afford :pp

@primm
1) copyright aside, they would look nice in multiplayer games/desktop sharing
2) it kind of reminds me of the Uno game
