@orchid it's because browsers don't automatically convert JPGs and PNGs to GIF when you try to download them like it does with webp. Nobody cares if it's technically a better format than the 2 they just want the image in the original format

@orchid GIF fucking sucks, it is worse than webp without question
256* colors per frame and no alpha channel is unacceptable in current day
the only reason people even consider GIF is because webp support is kinda terrible

*technically it is possible to use more colors, but this seems to require computer witchcraft that I'm not qualified to talk about

@orchid cuz its about user friendlyness it was never about the format! u can open a gif on any computer anybody would be using today but not a webp!

@orchid the reason people shit on webp is because barely anything supports it, otherwise its better in every way.
